Grade 6 has spent the month of February celebrating Black History month. Students watched some "Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man" to better understand what privilege is, and how this has affected black people and what we can do to help right these injustices . They also watched a documentary on Willie O'ree to see what he went through as the first black NHL player.
Students spent some time researching and celebrating influential black people in history-we wrote articles and made a quilt to better inform us on black accomplishments. This is helping grade 6 learn to understand their role as justice seekers, as they are becoming more aware of the wrongs of the world, especially in regards to racism, and are learning what they can personally do to help right these wrongs.
