Bonjour! My name is Kelly Smith, but your child(ren) will know me as Madame. This is my third year at CCES, my 10th year of teaching French as a Second Language and my 18th year as an educator.
My faith journey began as a young child. Through involvement in my church community, I developed a passion for working with children while, at the same time, discovering the “Father” qualities of God and developing a more personal relationship with Him.
I was raised in small town Manitoba but moved to Calgary to pursue my education degree. Graduating from the U of C in 1996 with a Bachelor of (Elementary) Education and concentration in French, I began my teaching career in the classroom at Trinity Christian School. After the birth of my firstborn, five years later, I took a leave from the classroom. With the exception of maternity leaves, I continued to teach, but in a very different setting. For several years, I worked as a teacher-facilitator with home-schooling families but, in 2009, I was excited to accept a position as an online French teacher for grades 4 through 9. I have been teaching French since then and have loved every minute of it!
I am excited to be a part of the CCES community and I look forward to getting to know you and your children better throughout the year, as we develop the knowledge, skills and attributes that will enable us to play out our roles as community-builders and order-discoverers in a language learning environment.
Outside of teaching, I love spending time with my husband and three children. I also enjoy reading, photography, digital scrapbooking, baking, gardening and exploring God’s amazing creation!
