Meet the creatures .... Teachers!

Mrs. Dayle Vienneau , MS Vice Principal

(Language Arts, Homeroom 7)

Mrs. Vienneau was a student at CCS and loved it so much that she decided to come back and teach here too! Did you know that when she was in MS, her least favourite subject was Language Arts… crazy right? Now, she can’t get enough of it and hopes that you will enjoy being in her Language Arts class! Mrs. Vienneau loves learning and has her Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Music, and Masters of Education (in literacy) from the University of Lethbridge, and is currently finishing a Children’s Mental Health certificate through MRU. When she is not at school, Mrs. Vienneau loves to go to Flames games, read, and train & compete in agility with her dogs, Reuben and Baxter.


Mr. Kevin Stoesz (Math, Homeroom 7)

Mr Stoesz was with us for a month in 2017, and we are excited to welcome him back to CCS! Since graduating from University of Alberta & Red Deer College with a Bachelor of Education/Science Combined Degree in 2015, Mr. Stoesz has been teaching MS & HS Math in both Palliser and Rockyview schools. He is an active member in his church leading youth, and a key member of the Camp Valaqua leadership, directing summer programs. He enjoys spending time with students, especially as a coach. After school hours, he’ll likely be found in our gym working with a CCS team.


Mrs. Melissa Hair (Language Arts, Homeroom 7)

Mrs. Hair has been teaching for eight years. Next year will be her second year at CCS (she taught at Menno Simons Christian School prior to this) and she is eager to meet the new Grade 7 class! Mrs. Hair teaches Language Arts to Grade 7 and Grade 8 and has a passion for reading and writing. Some of her favourite things to do are to play board games, spend time at the Calgary Zoo and travel around the world.

Mr. Rob Oostenbrink (Social)

Mr. "O" (Rob Oostenbrink) has taught Grades 5-9 at CCS for 30 years. His three boys once attended CCS K-12, which set a solid Christian worldview and academic foundation for their university education. They also developed life long friendships at CCS. They loved CCS secondary. What more can you ask for?

One of his sons has taught Grade 7 and 8 Social Studies, the subjects Mr. "O" will be teaching this year. Mr."O" has a passion for history, Christian worldview thinking, art, and writing. He teaches by dramatic storytelling, uploaded powerpoints (google classroom) with many visuals, short video clips, interactive games, and critical thinking reflections.

On a side note, Mr. "O" was once a passionate athlete but chronic injuries has forced him into retirement. Mr. "O" is an artist and enjoys writing, and likes to spend time in his studio. Mr. "O"'s greatest interest is landscaping and gardening and at some point hopes to win Calgary's horticultural contest.

Mr. Tim Allison (Science)

Mr. Allison has been teaching Middle School Science for 14 years, and has been at CCS for half of that time. In addition to his Science classes, he teaches a few options. When he's not at school, he spends much of his time outdoors, training his dog, hiking, fishing, and hunting.

Mme. Christina Chrest (French, Foods)

Mme. Chrest actually graduated from Calgary Christian School in 1992 and she started her teaching career here at the school. She has taught many subjects, but for the last 6 years she has been teaching French and Foods classes at the school. She loves teaching both those subjects and sometimes even teaches a cooking class, in French, to her French students.


Mme. Chrest is married and has three children and two dogs. Her favorite pastime is traveling with her family. They love to explore new places but also love their camping spot at Pine Lake and their winter vacations to Mexico. Welcome! This year is going to be great!

Señora Kelly Bouwman (Spanish)

Kelly Bouwman (aka. Señora Bouwman) loves teaching Spanish her at CCS. She thinks that learning a new language in a fun way is a great way to communicate to others and share God's Word with them.This has been her 3rd year at CCS in the middle school, after having taught in the elementary for a number of years. She is a CCS alumni who loves being outside, playing soccer, softball, biking, sledding, skating, baking and spending time with her family (who attend CCS at the elementary). ​​She hopes you enjoy CCS Middle school as much as she has!

Mr. Mark Jonker (PE)

Mr. Jonker will be teaching his fourth year at Calgary Christian school in the junior high in 2018/19. He primarily teaches junior high phys ed and several really fun options. He enjoys seeing kids being active and really enjoys encouraging them to be the best they can be and conquer new challenges. Mr. Jonker has three children at Calgary Christian school; one in elementary, one in junior high, and one in high school. In his free time he enjoys spending time outdoors hiking and fly fishing.

Mr. Rick Vander Woude (Band, Choral)

Mr Vander Woude has been a music teacher in the Christian school system since 1995 and at Calgary Christian since 2000. He has also been a church musician since receiving a Diploma of Church Music from the King's University College in Edmonton and both a Bachelor and Master degree in music performance from the University of Alberta. He was also very fortunate to receive a scholarship from the Johann Strauss Foundation in 1988 for a year of music studies in Vienna, Austria. Currently, he is an organist and choir director at Highwood Lutheran Church and music director for the New Beginnings Choir.

Mr. Vander Woude enjoys performing music with his family.  They sing together for devotions and perform both instrumental (piano, saxophone, violin) and choral music around Calgary for various community and church functions. They also enjoy traveling together and have done a backpacking trip through Italy and Greece, as well as a road trip to St. John's, Newfoundland. Movie making, hiking, canoeing and playing goal for the staff/student hockey games are also activities that he enjoys.    

Music is an amazing gift given to everyone to give praise and glory to our God. Because of this, he is very committed to a Christian education that offers a strong music program. Therefore, we offer choral, and band classes here at CCS with extensions into worship, jazz and musical theatre. He looks forward to working with your children and teaching them how music is a way to communicate our faith and joy in our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Mrs. Tamara Menzies (Family School Liaison Counsellor)

Mrs. Menzies is the Family School Liaison Counsellor here at Calgary Christian Secondary School. She is married and has an (awesome) 13 yr old step-son. She loves painting, camping, and spending time friends and family. She is a Registered Social Worker with a background in working with families.Mrs. Menzies is honoured to be working with the students of Calgary Christian School, and is excited to come alongside youth and their families as they navigate through various challenges. In addition to providing counselling services, she also connects students and families to external resources and supports as needed, facilitates group work, offers educational class presentations, and works closely with the teachers and other school staff. As a Christian, her faith serves as a solid foundation and guide in all the work she does.

Mr. Layne Kilbreath (Chaplain and Director of Faith Formation)

Pastor Layne is starting his fifth year at CCS. He loves having fun and providing a safe place for students to talk about faith, Jesus and the Bible. You'll see him in the halls, in some of your Bible classes, at Faith Formation each Friday and coaching High School girls volleyball. You can swing by his office any time you have a good joke to share, or just want to talk or pray about anything that's going on in your life!
