Here, in this place and time, we declare: “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters.” (Psalm 24) We gather on the traditional territory of the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. We acknowledge that we live, work, and worship on treaty land entrusted by the Creator. We recognize the ongoing presence and contributions of Indigenous Peoples. We confess the deep injustices committed against them—including the Church’s role in residential and day schools. As followers of Christ, we apologize for these wrongs and commit to listening, learning, and healing. We confess that we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves and commit to seeking right relationships rooted in justice and humility. In a divided world, we answer Christ’s call to be a community of truth and reconciliation. We seek renewed relationships with the Original Peoples of this land—founded in honour, deep respect, and peace. May we live with respect on this land, and in friendship with its peoples.
