Moving to Middle School

Moving to the Secondary Campus

Welcome to Gr7 @CCS

Middle School is a unique and new experience in the life of your child. Entering the Secondary campus, students encounter more independence alongside a new level of responsibility. Lockers, options, and timetables play a key role as they maneuver through Gr7 life.

Current Gr6 students will be invited over to the Secondary Campus before the end of this school year (June 21 at 1:30pm) to meet teachers and have a tour of the building.  We’re excited to meet your child and connect with them already!

SAVE THE DATE: a Gr7 CCS Orientation Evening will take place on Tuesday, August 30. Students will meet their teachers and classmates as well as time to get familiar with their new surroundings. Parents are asked to attend as well, as we’ll be sharing lots of helpful information for you.

Here’s a few details to help anticipate Moving to Middle School:

Lockers

Each student will be assigned a locker and often the first struggle they may undergo will be simply learning how to open their lock and memorizing their combination. As students provide their own locks, this would be a great thing to practice over the summer! We discourage locks with letters as they tend to be more faulty than traditional locks.

School Supplies

The supply list is posted HERE on our website, under the parent tab.  You can purchase through School Start or use the CCS list.

Options

In Gr7, students are presented with an opportunity to try a variety of new courses. Instead of picking just 1 or 2, students will rotate through a schedule so they can expand their learning through drama, foods, shop, and art.  It is hard to decide if you like shop or foods class if you have not been down in our amazing shop with Mr. Bonk or in the kitchen cooking up a delicious treat with Mrs. Chrest!

Music

We’re excited for our new teacher, Ms. Wuetherick, to join CCS this fall. All Gr7 students will have an opportunity to experience music with Ms.Wuetherick either as instrumentalists or vocalists where appropriate. The school has an inventory of instruments for students to access.

Languages

Within our schedule, students selected a language to study (French, Spanish or English Essentials). A note: French class is a continuation from Gr6, while Spanish is for anyone wanting to try out a new language with no previous experience required

Gym Class

Students will be asked to wear their current CCS PE shirt, along with their own pair of black athletic shorts for gym class.  If you’re new to Calgary Christian, a new shirt will be issued at the beginning of the year.  (new shirts will be distributed again in Gr8!). If a replacement, or second shirt is wanted, you can order in August through School Cash for a nominal fee. Please ensure your child has indoor and outdoor running shoes for gym class.

Athletics

There are several competitive sports for your child to participate in at CCS! Starting with Cross Country and volleyball at the beginning of the year. Watch our social media for a possible volleyball camp the last week of August in our gym!  More details about Athletics are posted HERE on our website.

Hot Lunches

They’re not just Wednesdays anymore!  We have a talented chef who created delicious meals Monday - Thursday. Ordering is cashless and done online!
