JOB TITLE: Interim Church Secretary

Position Summary: A Christ-centered and growing multicultural, multi-ethnic, multi-generational Christian Reformed Church is seeking applicants for the position of interim Church Secretary. This is a 6 month position with as we evaluate our needs. The desired candidate should possess a warm and welcoming personality, intermediate administrative skills, strong computer skills and a servant’s heart. This position works closely with the pastoral staff, church administrator, worship director, and the public. Strong English oral and written communication skills are a requirement.

Responsibilities: The chief responsibilities for the Church Secretary are those related to providing front-desk service, reception duties and secretarial support to the staff and various church ministries. Specific responsibilities include:
 To answer the main phone line and transfer calls to other staff, and filtering and forwarding emails.
 To prepare weekly bulletins and inserts.
 To welcome and assist guests.
 To maintain contact database and membership documents.
 To organize volunteers to cover reception duties when away from the office.
 To cover duties such as: mail outs; preparing the yearly church directory; preparing elder/deacon profiles, ballots and absentee ballots; anniversary/birthday cards for the senior pastor; supply members with giving envelopes; maintaining bulletin boards; arranging advertising.
 Work with other staff to ensure that certificates for those making Profession of Faith and receiving Baptism are completed; police check protocol is followed; church office and church procedures are maintained, and confirm weekly schedules.
 Design, preparation and updating of PowerPoint slides and webpages.
 To be an enthusiastic member of the staff, participating in staff meetings.
 Other tasks as assigned by the Senior Pastor.

Qualifications: The successful candidate must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a servant’s heart to support the ministries of the growing church. Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office are critical. A willingness to learn is very important. Previous administrative experience and knowledge of church ministries would be an asset.


The desired candidate should have strong organizational abilities and the ability to problem solve and act independently. Extremely strong inter-personal skills (both verbal and written) are necessary as the candidate must work easily and successfully with others of diverse ethnic backgrounds and cultures. In interacting with others, the candidate must display positive, diplomatic, and cooperative behaviour.

Hours: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, Tuesday – Friday.
Remuneration: Commensurate with background and experience
Supervision and Evaluation: The Church Secretary reports directly to the Senior Pastor. Work to be evaluated on an ongoing basis, with a formal evaluation conducted biennially by the Senior Pastor.
